Project Overview
In late September of 2004 a meeting was held between Golden Eagle Log Homes and Country’s Best Log Homes Magazine. It was then that the decision was made for Golden Eagle Log Homes to design and construct a house for Country’s Best Log Homes Magazine to write a series of articles in their national semi monthly magazine. The thought was that a project like this could be a great way to educate Country’s Best Log Homes Magazine’s readers on the design and construction process of a log home from start to finish. Golden Eagle Log Homes set out to create something very special for this project. Property was purchased on Lake Petenwell, one of the best kept secrets in Wisconsin. Lake Petenwell is located one and a half hours northwest of Madison and 45 minutes north of the Wisconsin Dells. The lake has over 22,000 surface acres and provides many attractions in the summer and the winter. Fishing, sailing, swimming, waterskiing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling are just some of the recreational opportunities Lake Petenwell offers. Once the location of the Showcase House was selected, the Golden Eagle Log Homes design team set out to create a home that would compliment its environment and be the envy of all others that surround it.
Over their many years of creating quality log homes for their customers, Golden Eagle Log Homes has formed many alliances with solid reputable companies such as, Moen Faucets, Heatilator Fireplaces, Weekes Forest Products, Richco Structures, Akzo Nobel Coating Inc. (makers of Sikkens stain), Crestline windows, and Bluelinx (America's Largest Building Products Distributor). These are just a few of the companies that jumped at the chance to be involved in this project. As time goes on, all of the companies that are involved with this project will be contributing information and insight to this website. Going beyond the construction of this home, we will discuss financing, heating and cooling decisions, appliances, design and decoration. The combined goal is to create a thorough resource and to give visitors a chance to test drive the experience of creating a dream home.
The Country’s Best Magazine Showcase log home was completed in April 2006. To celebrate the grand opening of this wonderful home, two VIP events and eight open houses were held as charity fund-raising events, with the proceeds going to the UW-Madison Children’s Hospital. Overall, this was a very successful project from start to finish.
